A staff member of Kaduna Electric narrowly escaped being stabbed by a police officer while attempting to inspect the officer’s prepaid meter in the Rigasa area of Igabi Local Government, Kaduna State.
The policeman, identified as Inspector Aminu Yahaya Bidda from Tudun Wada Police Station in Kaduna metropolis, was seen in a viral video assaulting and attempting to stab the Kaduna Electric staff with a knife drawn from his waistband. The incident has led to Inspector Bidda’s arrest by the Kaduna State Police Command, Rigasa Division.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Kaduna Electric employee visited the officer’s residence to inspect the meter due to suspicions of a bypass, as the officer had only purchased electricity tokens twice in 2024. The video, which has been widely shared online, shows the officer repeatedly threatening the company’s officials with a knife.
Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Head of Corporate Communication for Kaduna Electric, confirmed the incident and stated that the company has formally lodged a petition with the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ali Audu Dabigi, calling for Inspector Bidda’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution.
“In our petition, we have requested that Inspector Aminu Yahaya Bidda be arrested, investigated, and charged to court for assault, attempted murder, harassment, and intimidation of our staff,” Abdullahi said. “We also sought the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation and requested the police commissioner’s intervention to ensure our staff’s protection while carrying out their lawful duties.”
Abdullahi added that the actions of Inspector Bidda not only violate the law but also risk setting a dangerous precedent and threaten the fragile peace in the state. “The officer’s vicious attack on our staff, who were lawfully performing their duties at his residence on Rimaye Road, Hayin Danmani, is unacceptable. Investigations revealed that the officer had only purchased electricity twice this year,” he concluded.
