The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Adamu Sagir Abbas, has urged the Federal Government to provide support in fencing the university’s new campus to address security concerns.
Expressing concern over the significant security challenges faced by the university community due to the open nature of its entrances, exits, and surrounding areas, Adamu emphasized the urgent need for fencing.
Speaking at the 38th convocation ceremony of BUK, Adamu also appealed for government assistance in providing solar electricity to the university. He highlighted the university’s current expenditure of N100 million monthly on electricity, underlining the strain it puts on academic and social activities.
Adamu further stressed the importance of reliable power supply in enhancing research and academic productivity, proposing solar power as a sustainable solution that could ensure uninterrupted electricity for federal universities nationwide.
He noted with regret that the university had to resort to hiring soldiers, hunters, and forest guards to secure the lives and property within its community, leading to additional financial burdens.
In attendance at the convocation ceremony, the Minister of Education, representing the Visitor of the University, President Tinubu, received honorary doctorate degrees alongside Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jubrin and President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina.
