Heavy rainfall in Western Australia has led to the disappearance of seven individuals, including four children, sparking concerns for their safety amid flash flooding.
The Western Australia Police Force issued a statement on Tuesday expressing grave worries for the occupants of two vehicles that went missing after departing on Sunday. One vehicle is reportedly driven by an elderly individual, while the other had an elderly driver and five other passengers, including four children aged between seven and 17.
The police emphasized the severity of the weather conditions and the uncertainty surrounding the resources the occupants might have with them, including food and water.
The weather anomaly, attributed to a low-pressure trough, has caused thunderstorms and substantial rainfall in southeast Western Australia since late last week. According to Weatherzone, the Eyre weather station recorded a staggering 325 mm of rainfall in the 96-hour period ending at 9:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday. This surpasses the previous record of 203.8 mm set in March 1912.
