The pre-screening process for potential patients has kicked off across 65 locations in Abia State, ahead of the forthcoming medical outreach organized by the Association of Nigeria Physicians in the Americas (ANPA).
This pre-screening initiative, as disclosed in a joint statement signed by Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi, who serves as the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee and Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, and Dr. Ifeyinwa Uma-kalu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, is scheduled to run from February 19th to March 22nd. The screenings will be conducted from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, at no cost to the patients.
The primary objective of the outreach is to provide medical assistance to approximately 5000 patients, in addition to offering preventive screenings, and conducting workshops and educational sessions to enhance skills and capacity within the local medical community.
Abia State was selected as the destination for ANPA’s 2024 annual medical outreach, scheduled to take place from April 4th to April 14th. The outreach will be conducted simultaneously at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, Abia Diagnostic Centre Umuahia, and General Hospital Amachara.
The statement emphasizes that the screening process targets individuals with serious medical conditions requiring surgical intervention and is being conducted across various centers in the state to ensure accessibility for all residents.
Furthermore, the statement outlines the timeline for the screening, laboratory tests, and blood donation, with these activities set to commence from March 18th onwards.
Residents of Abia State in need of surgical interventions are encouraged to visit the screening centers for a free medical examination. Additionally, volunteers are being called upon to donate blood to bolster the blood bank reserves for the surgeries.
The medical outreach is being organized in partnership with the Abia State Government and several non-governmental organizations, including Rotary International District 9142, ASNA, NeoPed, DAGOMO, and IRRE.
