The Sokoto State Government, through its Zakkat and Endowment Agency, began distributing monthly financial assistance to the needy on Monday.
At the inauguration of the program in Sokoto, the agency’s Chairman, Malam Lawal Maidoki, stated that this initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to reduce economic hardship among citizens.
“As part of the initiatives led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, we are empowering 100 less privileged individuals today, with each receiving N20,000,” Maidoki said.
He explained that the assistance is intended to help beneficiaries start small businesses, thereby improving their living conditions in the face of current economic challenges.
“The program also includes provisions for medical assistance, food, and other daily necessities for the needy across the 23 local government areas of the state,” he added.
Maidoki emphasized the government’s commitment to not only supporting the well-being of the needy but also ensuring that proper measures are in place to address their challenges.
He praised the state government for its monthly N10 million contribution to the agency and assured that the aid would reach its intended recipients.
Maidoki also expressed gratitude to individuals and organizations that have continued to support the less privileged and called on others to join in the cause.
Additionally, he mentioned that the agency is open to collecting contributions for the people of Maiduguri, Borno, who were recently affected by a flood disaster.
