Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has refuted rumors that he has resigned following the team’s 0-0 draw against Rwanda in Kigali during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Speculation about Eguavoen’s resignation began after his post-match remarks in Kigali. However, upon the team’s return to Abuja, Eguavoen clarified to newsmen that the rumors were false and that he had been misquoted.
“I am still in charge of the Super Eagles,” Eguavoen affirmed, adding that he would meet with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to review the team’s performance over the two recent matches. He stressed that the rumors were baseless and urged against the spread of negative stories.
“It’s unfortunate that people are spreading false information. I only mentioned discussing the team’s next steps with the federation’s leadership, but I am still very much in charge as the Technical Director of the NFF,” Eguavoen said.
The Super Eagles’ next AFCON qualifier will be against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, scheduled for mid-October.
