The Super Eagles’ recent string of poor performances has seen the team drop significantly in the latest FIFA rankings released this morning.
From their previous position at number 30, the Super Eagles have fallen eight places to number 38 in the world, and from number 3 to number 5 in Africa.
Since the African Nations Cup in Côte d’Ivoire, the Super Eagles have been underwhelming, losing two matches and drawing two, including two World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic, as well as two friendly matches under the recently resigned coach Finidi George.
As expected, Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked team, moving up from 13th to 12th in the world. Following Morocco is Senegal, which dropped slightly from 17th to 18th, while Egypt claimed Nigeria’s former third position, moving from 37th to 36th.
In fourth position is African champion Côte d’Ivoire, climbing from 38th to 37th, while Nigeria’s drastic fall from 30th to 38th marks a significant decline.
Rounding out Africa’s Top 10 are Tunisia, remaining at 41st, Algeria, dropping from 43rd to 44th, Cameroon, moving up from 51st to 49th, Mali, falling from 44th to 50th, and South Africa, which, despite an impressive World Cup qualifier performance, remains 10th in Africa and 59th in the world.
