Dr. Agbu Danlamin, the Acting Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai, announced on Monday that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards the extortion of students under the guise of payments for handouts, aligning with Governor Agbu Kefas’s Free Education policy.
During an interaction with journalists at the Jalingo campus, Danlamin emphasized the school’s strict stance against the sale of handouts and other extortion practices.
“The management fully supports the governor’s vision to alleviate the financial burden of education on parents, ensuring that children have no reason to be on the streets,” Danlamin stated.
He also appealed to the governor for assistance in providing solar lights, drainages, and a guest hall for hosting large gatherings.
“We fully comply with the governor’s free education policy. Tuition fees have been reduced by 50%, and we have banned the sale of handouts and other forms of extortion. Students are encouraged to report any extortion attempts by lecturers. Fortunately, our lecturers are disciplined and support this initiative,” Danlamin said.
Highlighting the school’s infrastructure needs, he called on the State Governor to focus on improving the campus facilities. “We need proper drainage systems to prevent flooding, especially with the NIMET flood alerts. Our streets are in poor condition, and the lack of solar-powered streetlights is a major security concern,” he noted.
Danlamin also mentioned issues with land encroachment and the need for a bridge to connect additional campus land. “We require a perimeter fence to prevent encroachment and a bridge across the stream to develop the area. We hope the governor, who is passionate about education, will address these issues,” he added.
