President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Abdullahi Ango as the Mandate Secretary for the newly established Youth Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, Mr. Anthony Ogunleye, Director (Press) of the Office of the FCT Minister, announced that this appointment is a significant step towards prioritizing youth development and empowerment in the region.
The newly established Youth Development Secretariat will function as a dedicated administrative body, coordinating all youth-related activities within the FCT. It will also serve as a critical platform for implementing youth policies and programs, including facilitating training in skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
Mr. Ango, a native of Kuje Area Council in the FCT, holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a master’s degree in International Relations from Nasarawa State University, Keffi. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Peace and Conflict Studies at Nasarawa State University.
With a strong background in public administration and a track record in youth empowerment, Ango is well-equipped for this role. Prior to this appointment, he served as the FCT Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, a position he has held since 2018.
Ogunleye emphasized that Ango’s experience and dedication to youth advocacy make him an ideal leader for the secretariat.
This appointment comes after youth representatives from the Abuja Municipal Area Council appealed for the creation of a youth secretariat during an interactive session with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on July 27. Minister Wike had expressed his support for the initiative and pledged to seek approval from President Tinubu, which has now been granted.
The Wike-led FCT administration had previously established a women’s affairs secretariat, bringing the total number of secretariats in the FCTA to 10.
