President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Tunji Bello, former Secretary to State Government (SSG) in Lagos as the CEO/Executive Vice Chairman of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Born July 1, 1961 in Lagos, Bello was educated at the University Of Ibadan, where he read Political Science and graduated with honours in 1984. He had his Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy in 1987 at the University of Lagos. He also read Law at same university between 1997 and 2000 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.
Bello began his journalism career in 1985 at the Concord Newspapers and was variously Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor and Editor, National Concord. He was a winner of US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship in 1992 and was part of the democratic struggle for the validation of the June 12, 1993 election.
A former special assistant to Bashorun MKO Abiola, Bello was appointed the Chairman, Editorial Board of ThisDay Newspapers in 2001 and left in 2003 to join the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commissioner for the Environment, a position he also served under Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu.
He is married to Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the current Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University.
