President Bola Tinubu is currently in a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima and several state governors at the State House in Abuja. This meeting follows Tinubu’s recent discussions with leaders from Organised Labour regarding the anticipated new minimum wage.
Among the governors present are AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Charles Soludo of Anambra, and Usman Ododo of Kogi, alongside others.
While the exact agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed, it coincides with a significant Supreme Court ruling on the financial autonomy of local governments. The court’s decision mandates that federal funds meant for local governments must be disbursed directly to democratically elected local officials, and prohibits governors from arbitrarily dissolving elected local councils.
More details to follow as the meeting progresses.
