The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has affirmed that President Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to providing quality healthcare services to Nigerians.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that President Tinubu’s vision for a healthier Nigeria is becoming a reality as his administration ensures access to quality and comprehensive healthcare services nationwide.
Speaking at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Ekiti State Government and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Services on Friday in Ikole-Ekiti, Dr. Alausa said:
“Today marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to improve healthcare delivery across the nation. It is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that every single Nigerian, regardless of their location, has access to quality and comprehensive healthcare.
“I must extend my deepest appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, for his magnanimity in establishing this medical center in Ikole-Ekiti. This decision underscores his unwavering dedication to the health and well-being of all Nigerians.
“President Tinubu’s vision for a healthier Nigeria is becoming a reality through initiatives like this, which bring top-tier medical services closer to the people. The establishment of this Federal Medical Center aligns perfectly with the president’s agenda to decentralize and democratize healthcare, making it accessible even to the most remote communities.
“It is a bold step towards achieving universal health coverage and ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in our quest for a healthier nation.”
Dr. Alausa also praised the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, for prioritizing the health of the state’s residents.
“I commend the government and people of Ekiti for their foresight and prioritization of healthcare. Under your able leadership, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Ekiti State has consistently demonstrated a profound commitment to the health of its citizens.
“The dedication of this facility by the government for use as a Federal Medical Center, Ikole-Ekiti, signifies your administration’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure and services in Ekiti State. The handover of the State Specialist Hospital Ikole-Ekiti to the federal government is not just a transfer of assets but a transfer of hope, potential, and a brighter future for the people of Ekiti and beyond.
“This facility will now be upgraded and equipped to provide comprehensive medical services, training, and research, aiming to become a center of excellence in healthcare delivery. We look forward to its transformation into a state-of-the-art federal medical center that will offer specialized medical services, attract skilled health professionals, and provide a platform for cutting-edge medical research.
“The benefits will extend beyond Ikole-Ekiti, positively impacting the entire region and contributing to the overall improvement of our national healthcare.”
He highlighted the cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Health and the Ekiti State Ministry of Health, led by Commissioner Dr. Filani Oyebanji, which facilitated the process leading to the day’s event.
“Let me reiterate our commitment at the Federal Ministry of Health to working tirelessly with all stakeholders to ensure the success of this Federal Medical Center. We will provide the necessary support, resources, and oversight to make the Federal Medical Center, Ikole-Ekiti, a beacon of hope and a model of excellence.”
Governor Oyebanji lauded the Federal Government and President Tinubu for upgrading the facility, noting that the initiative would address the healthcare needs of Ekiti State and neighboring states.
“It is a profound honor to stand before you today as we mark a significant milestone in our collective journey towards improving healthcare and expanding access to quality healthcare services. Today, we gather to formalize an agreement that is not just a contract but a commitment—one that underscores our shared values and dedication to the well-being of the people of Ekiti State whom we serve.
“My government has always believed that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right. This belief is the cornerstone of our mission and drives every decision we make. It is this unwavering commitment that brings us here today to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Ministry of Health and the Ekiti State Ministry of Health. This MoU is more than a piece of paper; it is a testament to our shared vision of a healthier, more equitable world.
“The handover of the State Specialist Hospital Ikole-Ekiti signifies a crucial step in addressing the healthcare needs of Ikole-Ekiti and Ekiti State as a whole. The presence of a Federal Tertiary Hospital in Ikole-Ekiti represents hope for patients battling illnesses beyond the capacity of secondary healthcare, comfort for families in distress, and the possibility of a healthier future for many more citizens within the state.
“Through this partnership, we aim to bridge gaps, ensuring that the people of Ikole-Ekiti and its environs receive access to affordable and quality healthcare that they require.
“The presence of a Federal Medical Center in Ikole-Ekiti would significantly benefit surrounding towns, including those in neighboring states who sometimes utilize the services of the State Specialist Hospital Ikole-Ekiti for convenience.
“The introduction of advanced healthcare services would address the pressing medical needs of these communities, reducing the distance needed to travel to access quality medical care. This accessibility is crucial for emergency cases, chronic illness management, and routine health check-ups.
“The Federal Medical Center would attract skilled healthcare professionals to the region, fostering a better healthcare environment. This influx of medical expertise would enhance the overall quality of care, leading to better health outcomes and increased life expectancy for the local population. Additionally, the presence of a Federal Medical Center would serve as a training ground for medical students and health professionals, promoting continuous learning and improvement in medical practices.
“This MoU is a stepping stone towards a larger goal. It is a demonstration of what can be achieved when the Federal Government and State healthcare institutions work hand in hand. Together, we can overcome obstacles, innovate solutions, and most importantly, save lives.”
