Details emerge following the attack on retired Brig. Gen. H. Udokwere at his home in Abuja, revealing a distressing turn of events.
Air Commodore S. A. Zakari (rtd) disclosed that the General’s wife reported a robbery at their residence on No 1 Sanga Street, Sunshine Homes, by Kabusa Junction, Lokogoma Abuja, around 0300 hrs on 22 Jun 24. This marked the third attack on their home, during which robbers demanded jewelry, seized the General’s pistol, and gunfire ensued.
Neighbour Pastor Awe confirmed that the robbers also injured an Estate guard, who was rushed to Abacha Barracks Hospital along with Udokwere. Despite efforts, Udokwere was later pronounced dead at National Hospital Abuja (NHA).
Upon notification at 0810 hrs, Air Commodore M. M. Igho rushed to NHA to provide support. There, he comforted Udokwere’s family, including his wife and children, and coordinated with military authorities to arrange for the retrieval of the General’s body from NAOWA Hospital, where he had been taken post-mortem.
The late General Udokwere, survived by his wife, who oversees the NDC Permanent Site project, leaves behind grieving family members whose decisions regarding funeral arrangements are pending.
