Republican Donald Trump declared victory in the 2024 presidential race after Fox News projected his win over Democrat Kamala Harris, marking an impressive political comeback four years after leaving the White House.
“America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump told a cheering crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center early Wednesday. Standing alongside his running mate, Senator JD Vance, as well as Republican leaders and his family, Trump celebrated the win. He also praised Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual, who contributed an estimated $120 million to Trump’s campaign. Trump announced plans to appoint Musk to lead a government efficiency commission if he assumes office.
While other news outlets had not yet officially called the race, Trump’s campaign was confident of victory after winning key battleground states Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia, and maintaining leads in other crucial states, according to Edison Research. Harris, who was gathered with supporters at Howard University, had not yet made a public statement. Her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond, addressed the crowd shortly after midnight, stating, “We still have votes to count.” Harris is expected to speak publicly on Wednesday.
Trump’s support was widespread, with gains in both rural and urban areas, surpassing his 2020 performance and demonstrating significant momentum across the nation.
