The University of Ibadan has announced the receipt of N201,114,650 from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support 1,370 students for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, the university’s Director of Public Relations, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Ibadan.
An internal memo, dated August 9, revealed that the funds had been deposited into the institution’s account to cover the fees of the students who successfully applied for the loan. The memo, signed by the Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, and addressed to the Dean of Students, noted that the bursary department is currently processing the funds to issue ‘smart receipts’ to the eligible students.
The memo further clarified that any student who has already paid their session fees but is a beneficiary of the NELFUND loan is entitled to a refund. To request a refund, the student must submit an application through the Dean of Students to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, including their account details and a photocopy of the original payment receipt.
The registrar emphasized that this information is only applicable to those who applied for and were approved to receive the NELFUND loan.
