The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has inaugurated a panel to investigate allegations of sexual harassment involving a professor in the institution’s Faculty of Arts.
The university made the announcement through a circular issued by the panel’s Secretary, Mr. B. D. Jonathan. The circular, obtained by Pathway News in Benin on Saturday, did not disclose the identity of the accused lecturer.
The panel has called on staff, students, and anyone with relevant information or who may have been a victim of the lecturer’s misconduct to come forward. The information provided will assist the committee in conducting a thorough and fair investigation.
“Be assured that your identity will be protected, and all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” the circular stated.
The university’s decision to form the investigative panel followed after a graduate of the institution shared her experience on social media, alleging she had suffered severe sexual harassment from the professor during her undergraduate years.
