The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has recognized two senior security officers for their contributions to improving security in the FCT. The honourees, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police Benneth Igweh and Assistant Director-General (D-G) of the Department of State Services (DSS) Ado Muazu, were celebrated for their exceptional service during a dinner in their honour on Saturday in Abuja.
Igweh, the immediate past Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, has been promoted to AIG in charge of Zone 7. Muazu, the former State Director of the DSS in the FCT, was also promoted to Assistant D-G and reassigned to the National Headquarters of the service.
During the event, Wike praised both officers for their unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of FCT residents. He described Igweh as a relentless fighter against crime and expressed gratitude for his efforts, which often put him at risk. Muazu, on the other hand, was lauded for his quiet yet committed approach to serving the FCT with distinction.
“These two officers have excelled in securing lives and properties in the FCT,” Wike said. “We are here today to celebrate them and give thanks to God for their promotions, which are a reflection of their hard work and commitment to service.”
The minister emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals for their sacrifices while they are still alive. “It is important to honour those who have helped make the FCT a safer place, allowing us to sleep peacefully,” Wike added.
As a token of appreciation, the FCT Administration donated a Prado Jeep to each officer to support their logistics in their new roles. “Chief of staff, ensure they receive their vehicles,” Wike instructed.
In response, Igweh, speaking on behalf of himself and Muazu, thanked the minister and the FCT Administration for the recognition and vowed to continue their efforts to strengthen security in the FCT. He assured Abuja residents that, despite his promotion, he would remain active in the capital’s security landscape.
“I am still around, and now that I have more power as an AIG, I will continue to protect Abuja,” Igweh said. He also warned criminals to reconsider their activities, as his new role gives him greater authority to maintain security.
Both Igweh and Muazu expressed their readiness to keep working with Wike and other security agencies to safeguard the FCT and its residents.
