The Zamfara State Government on Tuesday refuted claims circulating on social media that it had allocated N19 billion for kitchenware for Governor Dauda Lawal.
During a media briefing in Gusau, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abdulmalik Gajam, dismissed the allegations as misleading and unverified.
“I would like to clarify that the information being circulated on social media is completely unfounded,” Gajam stated. “A government committed to reducing its spending for the betterment of the state’s future cannot possibly budget N19 billion for the governor’s kitchen and canteen equipment.”
He emphasized that the Zamfara Government, under Governor Lawal, operates an open-door policy, welcoming media and other stakeholders to verify information rather than spreading rumors.
“As a transparent government, we are open to scrutiny by any media outlet that approaches with genuine intentions,” Gajam said, urging media houses to act responsibly and verify information before publication.
He expressed concern that such baseless rumors could mislead the public and incite unnecessary reactions among the people of Zamfara.
Gajam further highlighted that Governor Lawal’s 2024 ‘Budget of Rescue’ focuses on increasing revenue, reducing expenditure, and ensuring transparency in the use of public funds. He reiterated that all expenditures by the current administration are made in the best interest of the people of Zamfara.
